FEP – Academic Orientation

Academic Orientation (AO) is the second part of FEP.

a. Goal : Helping fresh Binusian to know more about each program’s curriculum, study skills, learning materials, and what a lecture feels like.

b. AO is held for two weeks, starting a week after Inauguration (September 5th until 17th). As a college simulation, AO is really useful to fresh students in order to adapt with new environment. Starting from AO, students are divided into their own programs. Each programs have different class schedule with various courses. Despite this division which results new classmates from the same program, the Buddy-BC system will still continue.

c. During AO, students learn and also experience four type of classes :

  1. Big Class : Held in auditorium, big classes usually consist of large number of students from the same faculty or when students from various programs have the same course. In big classes, lecturers give theory-based lessons in general.
  2. Small Class : Held in classrooms, small classes usually consist of students from the same program (equivalent to classes in high schools). In small classes, lecturers give theory-based lessons more specific/detail. Students are encouraged to discuss and raise questions (if needed) about the lesson during this small class, as it’s more effective studying in smaller groups than having a big class. Theory exams are held in small class.
  3. Lab Class : Held in laboratories, lab classes usually consist of students from the same program. In lab classes, lecturers give practical-based lesson, and students will be able to apply their theory using computers. Practical exams are held in lab class.
  4. GSLC (Guided Self-Learning Class) : Held in virtual location, GSLC is basically online learning via Binus Maya. In GSLC, students will be given assignment from lecturer, and also they may discuss with classmates in a forum. GSLC can also be a field trip (educational trip away from campus) with assignment added.
